Finally the tables are starting to turn...

You may or may not remember that I had posted a while back that I was going to a Tracy Chapman concert.

Well, that concert was on Wednesday night... and it was... INCREDIBLE!

The concert is part of something called the Edmonton Folk Fest, and it's on a big hill with no seats. You bring your own chairs, put down a tarp, and chillax for hours listening to good music. And thanks to our friends who seriously won the lottery for tarp placement we moved from here:

To here:

(Yah, yah, Sarah McLachlan, soooooooooo whatever! She's not my fave, although she was a pretty good live performer, I'll give her that. And picture credits go to Hubby.)

All I can say is this: holy shit. It was the perfect place to be for the concert, and I loved it.

Now, unfortunately, Tracy Chapman had this thing where she didn't want to be photographed while performing. People a little further back, they got away with taking pictures because nobody out there could stop them. But us? We were right in the first couple of rows where there was security telling us to turn off our cameras. UGH.

I was uber-sneaky and was able to sneak a few videos in, even though that is totally against the rules. But, as you know, I love Tracy (have since 1988!!) and I needed to remember being there. Just sitting there listening to her live completely overwhelmed me. My eyes were welling up with tears, that's how beautiful those moments on Wednesday night were to me.

And so, here are a couple of the little videos I sneaked of her:

Our friends that invited us down did have their digital SLR camera with them, and he handed it to me and asked if I could try to sneak a pic of Tracy while security wasn't looking.

Sadly, I'm more comfortable with a SLR and so was able to snap a picture super quick and stealthily while I simply could not get my point and shoot to do what I wanted it to do... I managed to snap take a really good one of Tracy, I think, but they haven't sent to me yet so I cannot share. I will once I get it though, that's for sure!

And yesterday, today, tomorrow and Sunday, we're at the Folk Fest hardcore. All day, everyday. It's like a bit of a staycation for us. I'm just taking time off work and enjoying a change of pace.

4 showed me the love:

how exciting!! That is really sucky about not being able to take pictures! But at least you got those videos. I sometimes watch the short little videos I've taken of concerts I've been to, and they are perfect of being back those memories.

That's awesome! Sorry about not being about take pics/vids without having to be sneaky about it. I hate that! I love Tracy Chapman too and the videos are awesome! She sounds great :) So glad you had fun!

I LOVE outdoor venues in the summer time. They're the best way to experience a concert. It might not always be comfy sitting on the ground, but a few beers, a warm summer night, and great music? Perfection!

Good thing you are so sneaky and got to get those videos and that you were able to move so close.

I love the idea of taking things slow and just enjoying a staycation and different change of pace.
